History at Hambridge Primary School
We are Historians!
We firmly believe that at Hambridge Primary School, children are taught to be historians through an enquiry based curriculum. Teachers carefully plan lessons to ensure there is a progression. We have main themes which run through our curriculum: chronology and legacy. We have a strong local history curriculum to make learning real and purposeful to children.
We ensure that our curriculum is inclusive and that all can access the history curriculum. Linking past to the present helps children to understand and develop an awareness of the world around them. Reading is used continuously within History to discover and explore, develop vocabulary and speech and language at all times.
History is taught half termly. Teachers carefully plan the key knowledge they want the children to learn in each unit of work. History skills documents are used to support their planning to ensure the children can become successful historians.
At the end of each unit, teachers assess children’s knowledge by answering the enquiry question posed at the beginning with a ‘point, evidence, explain’ approach. This then informs future planning and assessment of the subject.
